Community-Based Health Care Leadership Networks Change in health care will require that we activate resources that cross institutional, professional and sector lines. To do this will require transformational leadership at all levels of the health care system, including, and perhaps particularly at the community level. This pilot project (January through November 2000) made an investment in developing and sustaining leadership at that level. The program served as an adjunct to the Allied and Auxiliary Workforce project by piloting a community health leadership development program aimed at addressing the outcomes sought by the allied health project. The program identified local leaders in four communities across the state, by convening focus groups; designing a leadership development program based on locally-defined needs; implementing the program at pilot sites; and evaluating the program to assess its relevancy to larger community development needs. Endowment and the California HealthCare
