Who is Clinic Leadership Institute for?
The Clinic Leadership Institute is designed for emerging leaders in California’s community clinics who demonstrate a long-term commitment and passion to preserving and enhancing the healthcare safety net.
The program is open to eligible staff of clinics licensed by the state of California as a Community Clinic, Free Clinic, or designated Tribal Clinic; and it is open to eligible staff of regional area consortia (RAC).
Selected participants will include all types of staff positions and represent the geographic, size, type, and ethnic diversity of California’s community clinics.
What are the qualifications to apply?
Program applicants must:
- Have at least three years of employment within the community clinic field
- Currently employed by a clinic licensed by the state of California as a Community Clinic, Free Clinic, or designated Tribal Clinic; or a regional area consortia (RAC) in California.
- Currently work in a management or supervisory capacity, which may include, but is not limited to, the following:
- Supervising three or more individuals at the same time
- Managing a specific program area of health center programming
- Leading a team of individuals or a project team within a clinic department
- Be open to learning about themselves and their organizations — and to making changes to meet the future needs of the safety net community.
Applicants will be asked to:
- Demonstrate how their current position showcases their ability to organize and motivate others, as well as effectively manage time and resources
- Have one sponsor and one reference submit essays that highlight how the applicant is recognized by others as an emerging leader
Requirements of the clinic or RAC:
Applicants must be sponsored by their current employer. If selected, the employer must provide paid release time during the regular work week to attend off-site seminars.
How does the selection process work?
Clinic Leadership Institute selects 25 emerging leaders to participate in program each year. The application is available on August 1 and due by October 31. To ensure a base level of knowledge and understanding about community health management, all applicants will:
- Complete a rigorous screening and selection process
- Submit a complete application, which includes a written personal statement
- Have a sponsor form and a reference form submitted on their behalf
- Take part in, if chosen as a semi-finalist, in-person interviews to discuss their qualifications and commitment to the field.
Interviews are held the first week in December.
