"Managing programs, organizations, and institutions providing care is a hard and often thankless job in today’s troubled health care system. The individuals selected for this leadership program have not only accepted that challenge, but have decided they want to do even more to improve care in California. The Foundation is quite proud to be able to invest in these remarkable individuals. They are going to make a difference.”

Mark D. Smith, M.D., M.B.A., president and CEO of the California Health Care Foundation.

The CHCF Health Care Leadership Program is an intensive, two-year development process. Fellows embark on an integrated course of study during which they learn the management and leadership skills and practices that they will need in order to meet the challenges of the future.

The purpose of the CHCF Health Care Leadership Program is to improve the health of Californians by developing and sustaining a network of leaders who will shape a more responsive and effective health care system. Each year a diverse group of health care professionals are selected to participate in a part-time fellowship that allows them to continue in their current management roles while participating in focused and intensive training. Fellows convene in training seminars six times during the two-year fellowship and participate in ongoing learning activities throughout. Graduates of the two-year fellowship acquire broadened management and sharpened leadership skills and gain unique and thorough insight into the trends and challenges facing health care leaders in California.

Fellows gain:

  • new visions and pathways for health care in California
  • skills to shape a health system
