Diversity in California's Health Professions This series of issue briefs examine California's current and projected population, as well as trended data describing demographic characteristics of the current workforce and education programs for selected health professions. Efforts to increase diversity and improve access to educational programs for underrepresented groups are also highlighted. The five issue briefs include the following professionals:
The Connecting the Dots Initiative Commissioned by The California Endowment, the Connecting the Dots Initiative’s purpose is to foster a more comprehensive, evidence-based understanding of the issues, challenges, and opportunities associated with efforts to increase workforce diversity in the health professions. The Public Health Institute and UC Berkeley School of Public Health formed a partnership to conduct the research and worked in collaboration with UCSF Center for the Health Professions, Gibson and Associates, and The Praxis Project. UCSF’s Diversity in California’s Health Professions: Current Status & Emerging Trends, one of seven reports produced through the Initiative, presents a quantitative assessment of the current level of diversity in California health professions education institutions and among practicing professionals.
