This project was designed to identify and map the educational supply chain for selected health professions in the state of California, including Medicine (MD), Dentistry (DDS), Nursing (RN), Pharmacy (PharmD), Respiratory Therapy, Physical Therapy, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Technicians, and Imaging Technologists and Technicians. We used data from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) and numerous other sources to describe basic historical trends in educational output, such as the overall number of graduates produced, the distribution among the states different higher education sectors (e.g. UC, CSU, CCC, private for-profit 2-year) and, where available, the distribution of graduates among different award levels (certificates below BA, Associates Degree, Bachelors Degree, etc.). This study is a project of the Health Workforce Tracking Collaborative, which is funded by The California Wellness Foundation, The California Endowment and the California HealthCare Foundation and administered at the UCSF Center for the Health Professions.
