Binesh Batra, MD currently serves as the Medical Director for Kaiser Permanente Downey Medical Center where he oversees the clinical administrative and financial operations for a 352 bed hospital and seven outpatient medical clinics in southeast Los Angeles County, California. As Medical Director, Dr. Batra is a board member and partner in the Southern California Permanente Medical Group. He is also charged with managing over 430 physician partners, associates and per diem clinicians caring for nearly 300,000 Kaiser Permanente members in the service area.
Binesh Batra, MD is board certified in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine. Prior to serving as Medical Director, Dr. Batra served as assistant medical director for three years, as well as, Chair of Gastroenterology for the Southern California Permanente Medical Group from 2001 to 2007. Since joining Kaiser Permanente in 1991, Dr. Batra has held several other leadership roles, including assistant chief of internal medicine and physician lead for gastroenterology. In addition, Dr. Batra has chaired several key medical center committees, such as Bioethics, the Drug Utilization Action Team, and Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
Throughout his tenure, Dr. Batra has been instrumental in developing the Pancreaticobiliary Program at the Downey Medical Center. In addition, he lead the efforts in developing region wide protocols on colorectal cancer screening and surveillance, the use of nurse practitioners and physicians assistants in managing Hepatitis C, screening Flex Sigs by registered nurses and nurse practitioners, and Preprocedural consults by nurse practitioners in medical offices.
Dr. Batra was born in New Delhi, India and moved to United States in March 1985, having completed medical school at University of New Delhi with honors. He completed his internal medicine residency and fellowship in gastroenterology at Bronx Lebanon Hospital, in Bronx, NY. In 1998, Dr. Batra completed the USC Management Development Program in Health Care.
In 2003, Dr. Batra was selected by the California HealthCare Foundation (CHCF) as one of 29 statewide health professionals named CHCF Health Care Leadership Program fellow.
Dr. Batra is happily married and has one daughter. In his spare time, Dr. Batra enjoys traveling, reading, gourmet food and music.
